At least five people have been confirmed dead following a horrible accident in Mabera, Migori county. Migori: 5 Killed as Speeding Lorry Loaded with Maize Rams into Motorcycles  How the Mabera accident that killed 5 people occurred Confirming the incident, Kuria West Sub-County Police Commander Reuben Bett told TUKO.co.ke that the accident occurred at 7.50pm on Sunday, January 19 at Ragana Bridge in Mabera Centre

Bett stated the terrible accident occurred after a lorry overloaded with maize from Sirare lost control and rammed into two motorbikes and pedestrians.  “On Sunday night at around 7:50pm, a lorry carrying maize rammed into pedestrians and motorcycle killing five instantly at Ragana Bridge in Mabera center,” Bett said. Five people died on the spot, while two other people were also injured in the accident and were rushed to Isebania Hospital for further treatment

“The bodies of the deceased were moved to Akidiva Hospital Morgue,” Bett added. According to eyewitness Nelson Mukobe Francis, the lorry was at high speed and rammed into two bicycles. One of the motorbikes was carrying two female teachers, along with a pedestrian, all who were positively identified. “We were at the center and the lorry was coming in high speed, it seemed to have lost control and rammed into the pedestrians,” Mukobe said.

The residents called on leaders to come out and complete the killer bridge that needs pedestrian paths to help avoid such accidents. “This bridge is a narrow and it’s putting the lives of our people in danger, it needs to be expanded and footbridge and bumps,” Thomas Nyamose, a resident said.
