Kakamega 9-year-old girl was strangled, post-mortem shows

Sharlyne Mwanzia funeral.The nine-year-old girl who was found murdered and her body dumped in a water tank in Kakamega County was strangled to death, a post-mortem report shows.

Police on Sunday confirmed that Sharlyne Mwanzia was hit on the head with a blunt object and then strangled.

Her mother Colleta Mwanzia also told the Nation on Sunday that the report they were shown indicated Sharlyne was hit and then strangled.
Sharlyne, who was a Standard Three pupil at St Joseph’s Academy, went missing from her parent’s home on March 11, 2018 as she played with her brothers.
A week later, her body was found in a water tank.
Sharlyne was buried on Saturday in Kivini Village, Kisasi, Kitui County.
The man suspected of luring the girl away from her parents’ compound and killing her is still on the run.
Ms Mwanzia appealed to Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to ensure her daughter’s killers are arrested and prosecuted.
“My family has gone through a very difficult moment trying to come to terms with the brutal murder of our daughter,” she said as she urged police to act quickly and ensure justice for Sharlyne’s murder.
ARREST
On Friday, 27 people were arrested in Kakamega Town following running battles with police during Sharlyne’s funeral procession.
Chaos erupted in the town when her body was being taken from the mortuary to Scheme Estate where her family lives.
Teargas and gunshots rent the air as youth demanded the arrest of the murder suspect, and some pelted police with stones.
Kakamega police boss Joseph Chebii confirmed the arrest of 27 suspects and said they would be arraigned in court on Monday.
