Yvonne Okwara Posts First YouTube Video After Citizen TV Exit

Veteran journalist Yvonne Okwara is wasting no time settling into her new chapter. Yvonne Okwara shared her first interview post-Citizen TV.  After departing Citizen TV, she has launched a YouTube channel and already has viewers hooked with a teaser of what promises to be a gripping first full interview. Watch Yvonne Okwara’s first innterview On Friday, October 20, Yvonne shared a short clip on social media previewing an exclusive sit-down with a Kenyan man named Vincent, a survivor of the Russia-Ukraine War.  The clip ended on a dramatic cliffhanger just as Vincent stepped into her vehicle, sending followers straight to her YouTube channel for the full version. In the video teaser, Yvonne set the scene for what she believes is one of the most important stories she has ever told. She reminded viewers that since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, hundreds of young Kenyan men have allegedly been lured to the conflict zone under false pretences, promised lucrative civilian jobs paying as much as KSh 300,000 alongside hefty sign-on bonuses, only to find themselves forced into signing military contracts. “Today I got to meet somebody who is not just a statistic but is the real embodiment of a tough situation.

His name is Vincent, and you will understand why I am inspired by his story,” she said in the clip. In the caption accompanying her post, Yvonne explained the significance of the interview in her own words, noting that Vincent’s account stands apart from the many desperate appeals that have come from Kenyan families searching for missing sons, brothers and husbands. “I have done many interviews on television, but none has been as compelling as this one. You’ve heard of the Russia-Ukraine War; you’ve heard of the Kenyan families crying out for help for their sons, brothers, husbands who went to fight in this faraway war and are now missing.  But how many made it out? For the first time, we hear the story of a conscript who survived,” she wrote. The full interview, available on her YouTube channel, explores how Vincent was deceived into travelling to Russia, what he experienced on the ground, and crucially, how he managed to escape. The teaser quickly drew attention online, with followers expressing admiration for Yvonne and excitement about the story.
