The daughter of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has been consecrated as a bishop.
Pastor Patience Kokundeka Museveni Rwabwogo, the third-born child and second daughter of President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, was on Sunday consecrated as an Episcopal bishop of Covenant Nations Church in Uganda after 20 years in ministry.
Patience traces her Christian journey to the age of 11, when she gave her life to Jesus Christ.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Vice President Jessica Alupo, renowned Nigerian preacher Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, security chiefs, diplomats and religious leaders.
Patience, who becomes the first bishop in the family, said her faith was built on a spiritual foundation laid by her maternal grandparents and paternal grandmother, who were among the early believers in their respective extended families.
President Museveni took pride in the milestone, describing it as unprecedented.
Reflecting on his family’s heritage, he observed that while his ancestors had lived in the region for generations, modern religions arrived much later, with Islam arriving in 1841, Anglicanism in 1877 and Catholicism in 1879.
He noted that none of his great-grandparents or grandparents joined the Church, making his parents, Mzee Amos Kaguta and his mother, alongside himself, the first in the family to join the Church in 1947.
“I never had even a catechist in my family, so I thank God for having a whole bishop banange (my children),” he said.
In a previous interview with New Vision, Bishop Patience described her consecration as a call to greater responsibility rather than a pursuit of higher status.
“I never sought this office. For me, this consecration is not about status or recognition, it is about greater responsibility, deeper consecration and a higher level of service,” she said.
Her spiritual journey and growth led to the founding of Covenant Nations Church about two decades ago.
The church began as a small house fellowship where family and friends gathered for prayer, worship and Bible study.
In the interview with New Vision published on August 13, Patience said she had experienced the immense value of knowing God from a young age.
She said that when young people discover God’s purpose early in life, they avoid many of the mistakes and painful detours that often come later.
The consecration ceremony was held in the presence of the First Family and Patience’s husband, businessman Odrek Rwabwogo, at Covenant Nations Church’s Maya Campus in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.
The ceremony was presided over by renowned American evangelist Bishop Dr LaDonna Osborn, who was the main celebrant.
Patience and Odrek have four children — two boys and two girls.
