A young couple full of plans for the future has left behind heartbroken families after a suspected gas explosion cut their lives short in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County. Kitale couple Daisy and Tonny passed away after a suspected gas explosion. Tonny and Daisy, who had been engaged for barely seven months, died after a gas leak reportedly triggered a blast at their home. Daisy had risen early that morning, as was her habit, to make breakfast for her husband when the explosion occurred. A love story that ended too soon The couple had marked their traditional engagement ceremony, known as Koito, in December 2025, surrounded by family and friends in what those who attended described as a joyful celebration. They had been looking ahead to a shared life together, with plans and dreams that would never come to pass. Following the tragedy, Tonny was buried on July 22, 2026. However, Daisy, who had sustained severe burns in the blast and was rushed to hospital for treatment, did not survive her injuries. She is set to be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 29, 2026, at the family’s Biribiriet farm. Family appeals for support The grief weighing on both families has been compounded by the financial burden of hospital bills and burial costs.
A harambee to raise funds for Daisy’s medical expenses and funeral arrangements is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, before her burial the following day at the Biribiriet farm. The family has extended an open invitation to well-wishers and members of the public to attend and offer support. Those close to the couple say the loss has left an enormous void, and prayers from the wider community have become a source of comfort during an extraordinarily difficult time.
