2026 World Cup: Haaland Stuns Brazil, England Edges Mexico

Brazil and Mexico have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering Round of 16 defeats to Norway and England, respectively, as the knockout stage continued to produce high drama across North America.

Norway stunned five-time world champions Brazil with a memorable 2-1 victory at the New York New Jersey Stadium, while England survived a late Mexican fightback to seal a 3-2 win and book their place in the quarter-finals.

Braut Haaland opened the scoring in the second half in the 79th minute with a powerful header before adding his second goal in the 90th minute with a composed finish. Brazil struggled to create clear chances despite enjoying more possession.

Neymar gave Brazil hope when he converted a stoppage-time penalty, but it proved too late as Norway held on to secure a historic quarter-final place. Goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland also played a key role, saving a first-half penalty from Bruno Guimarães to preserve Norway’s advantage.

England edge past Mexico in a thriller

England’s task became more difficult after Jarell Quansah was sent off in the second half after making a risky tackle. However, Harry Kane converted a penalty to restore the visitors’ two-goal cushion.
Raúl Jiménez also scored from the penalty spot for Mexico to set up a tense finish, but England defended resolutely to book their place in the last eight.
