Video: Winnie Odinga Discloses Ruto Is Only Official Who’s Been Visiting Them Since Raila’s Death

Winnie Odinga has spoken candidly about her relationship with President William Ruto, revealing that since the death of her father, Raila Odinga, the head of state has consistently reached out to her family. Winnie shared how Ruto had stood by their family during grief.  The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP disclosed this during an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, January 27, in a conversation that touched on grief, politics and the often-blurred lines between personal relationships and public expectations in Kenyan politics. How has Ruto supported Odingas? Winnie revealed that the head of state had not forsaken their family during their time of grief, adding that he’s been ‘taking care of us.”

“Since the passing on of my father, the only senior leadership that has come to check up and take care of us as a family has been President William Ruto,” Winnie stated. The EALA MP, who in recent weeks has been critical to ODM working with Ruto’s UDA party, dismissed the belief that politics should be a personal sort of grudge. Winnie recounted the day his father died in India and how Ruto’s administration ensured they were back in the country in time to give Raila a decent send-off. “The thing about the Kenyan society is they love to put things as us versus them. I can still like you and disagree with you or vice versa, but on a personal capacity, if you knew the village I woke up in in India, and I was here within 24 hours, I must be grateful for the honour and respect that he accorded my father in that period,” she added.
