KCB coach Amonde calls for discipline despite 45–3 demolition of Blak Blad

KCB coach Andrew Amonde has called on his players to improve their discipline, even after a commanding 45–3 victory over Blak Blad in a Kenya Cup match on Saturday.

The bankers were reduced to 14 men in the second half after new signing Richel Wangila was sent off for a dangerous tackle. Amonde said such incidents must be addressed.

“We had a player sent off, and it’s something we must eradicate because in a competitive game it can cost you, though for us we were in a strong position. Blak Blad had their opportunities, but they did not utilise them,” he noted.

KCB got off to a strong start, and Amonde praised his side’s tempo and intensity from the first whistle. “Our tempo and intensity from minute one were good. We did not allow Blak Blad to breathe, and it paid off. That’s how I want our team to play going forward,” he said.

The former Kenya Sevens skipper added that there is still room for improvement as the league reaches its halfway point. “So far, we can improve on our defensive alignment and set-piece. We are heading into a crucial period, where we play the top teams. Our game must be well-structured and complete to win the big prizes,” Amonde noted.

KCB scored seven tries, with Mike Wekesa, Festus Shiasi, Nick Okullo, Fidel Maina, Levy Amunga, Andy Cole Omollo and Sheldon Kahi each touching down once. Brian Wahinya converted five of the tries.

The bankers led 40–3 at halftime. KCB now face a tricky run of fixtures, starting with Nondies next weekend, followed by clashes with Masinde Muliro, Menengai Oilers, Kabras and Daystar Falcons.

Elsewhere, Menengai were tested by Kenya Harlequins but secured a hard-fought 22–17 win at the RFUEA Ground. Champions and league leaders Kabras earned a bonus-point victory over Nakuru RFC, 55–8, at Nakuru’s home ground.

Kisumu RFC recorded their first win of the season, coming from behind to beat Impala 29–22, while Strathmore Leos edged Daystar Falcons 34–31 in a high-scoring encounter in Madaraka.
