Two-year-old boy found dead in Mlolongo dumpsite

Detectives are investigating the death of a two-year-old boy whose body was discovered at a dumpsite in Mlolongo, Machakos County.

Police said the boy’s body was found behind Mlolongo Primary School on January 22, 2026.

Officers believe the child may have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the site.

The body reportedly had healed scars, and blood was seen coming from the left ear, police said. It was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations.

By Friday morning, no arrests had been made and the child had not yet been identified, police said.

In Koru, Kisumu County, police said a 66-year-old man was found dead on his plot after a reported dispute with a neighbour.

The deceased, identified as Joseph Acholla, was discovered with multiple injuries. Police said the suspect was believed to be a neighbour and had fled the scene following the incident on Thursday.

The body was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy. Police said the two men had previously argued over land issues.

In Masinga, Machakos County, police said a 17-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Tana River.

The boy had reportedly returned home before leaving again to bathe and swim in the river. His body was later recovered and taken to a mortuary. Police said the incident occurred on January 22.

The boy was a student at Kyangosi Junior Secondary School, police said.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution when using the river, as drowning incidents have been reported frequently.

In Ngando, Nairobi, police said a suspect was killed by a mob following a failed attempt to rob a pedestrian of a mobile phone. The suspect’s accomplice reportedly escaped.

Police said the suspect was accused of stealing the phone, but no arrests had been made in relation to the incident.

Authorities condemned the mob action and urged members of the public to surrender suspected criminals to law enforcement rather than taking the law into their own hands.
