Over 200 swimmers to grace Kiambu County Aquatic Association Level One championship at M-PESA Academy

Over 200 swimmers will compete ar the Kiambu County Aquatic Association Level One Swimming Championship at M-PESA Academy in Thika this weekend.

The championship brings together over 30 clubs and schools from the metropolitan counties of Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, Nairobi as well as Murang’a and Laikipia counties, marking one of the largest swimming gatherings ever staged under a county aquatics association.

They include Dashing Dolphins, Elite Aqua Warriors, Braeburn, the Harpoons, Sabis School, SuperMarlins, Aquawave, Merishaw, Dive Master, Snook, Beapro, Swimnation and Wadi Degla.

Others include Potterhouse School, Juja Elite, Genesis Sports, Orca, Aquashark Fin, Swimming Talents, Agakhan Academy,  Crawford International School, Water Warriors, Premier, Wave Warrior, Hampton School Nanyuki, Gold Fish, Home Aquatics, St.Teresa School, Poseidon, Mombasa Aquatics and Water Waives.

Nesmas Mbati, the Kiambu County Aquatics Association Public Relations Officer expects a competitive championship.

“Given the level of competition expected, we anticipate county records to be broken and many athletes achieving Kenya Aquatics national qualifying times,” noted Mbati.

Chairman Gideon Kioko said the championship is a reflection of deliberate investment in grassroots and performance pathways.

“This event showcases how far swimming in Kiambu County has come. We are seeing better preparation, stronger clubs, and athletes who are hungry to compete at the highest level. Hosting an Invitational Championship at the start of the year sends a clear message about our ambitions,” he said.

Lauren Achieng’, assistant coach at Orca said they have been training every evening for the past fortnight and is confident the team will emerge the overall winners.

Among the best in their stable is Barack Laja, who targets 16 seconds over 50m freestyle in the boys’ seven and under category.
