Kenyans in Rwanda celebrate launch of nyama choma zone, discuss job-ready skills

The event brought together professionals, students, and guests for discussions on how universities in the region can produce industry-ready graduates. It also featured mentorship sessions and networking.

Dr Martin Kimemia, Vice Chancellor of Mount Kigali University Rwanda (MKUR), led a discussion on bridging theory and practice. Kenyan radio personality Muthoni wa Kirumba facilitated a mentorship session.

“The hotel, in partnership with Mount Kigali University, will provide students with hands-on experience in a real-world setting, learning from industry experts while providing top-tier service to our valued clients.”

“What sets us apart is our unique approach to training the next generation of hospitality professionals,” she said.

The Paramount Hotel began soft operations last year and has since gained traction. It is currently ranked among the top hotels by both local and international travellers to Rwanda.

“We have a panoramic view of the thousand hills that are narrated about Rwanda and are also in close proximity to facilities such as the airport as well as tourism sites.”

During the event last Friday, Muthoni wa Kirumba addressed students from the School of Journalism at Mount Kenya University. She advised them to remain grounded as they navigate their careers.

“It has been a tough journey especially for women, who are branded as socialites and other sometimes demeaning titles but you have to have the will to fight. In your careers in media, you will interact with the mightiest to the lowliest in the society. In this journey, take it a step at a time, climb the ladder one rank at a time. It will not be easy,” she said.

“It has been tough but if I were to do it all over again, I would become a journalist. And I would specifically want to work in radio.”

Guests were treated to a barbecue experience during the launch of Choma Zone. The evening also featured performances by Kenyan musicians, including Waithaka wa Jane, DJ Dibul, and Wangui wa Ndirangu.

The Paramount Hotel has grown into one of Kigali’s notable destinations, attracting visitors from within Rwanda and beyond.
