National Super League newcomers Gucha Stars have suffered a major setback after their top scorer, Vincent Nyabuto, completed a move to the Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA).
Nyabuto is currently the NSL joint leading scorer with 10 goals, level with Migori Youth’s Syphas Otieno. The former Shabana FC forward becomes the second key departure from the financially strained Gucha Stars, following defender Hillary Wandera, who recently joined Premier League side APS Bomet.
Gucha Stars head coach Sammy Okoth admitted the club could lose more players in the ongoing transfer window. “Several players have been approached by other clubs. If they get good offers, we can’t stand in their way,” said Okoth.
Despite the exits, the coach remains optimistic, revealing plans to reinforce the squad. “We did not sign any player during the summer transfer window. We will strengthen the team in the current window and replace those who have left,” he added.
The club has already signed left-back Stafarey Akama from Mosora FC as part of the rebuilding process. MOFA coach Charles Warinda believes Nyabuto will provide a significant attacking boost as the White Rhinos push for promotion to the SportPesa Premier League.
Speaking after completing the transfer on Wednesday evening, Nyabuto expressed excitement about the move. “It’s an opportunity I was really looking forward to, and I already feel at home. What attracted me most was the coach, Charles Bruno, and the club’s structure,” said Nyabuto.
MOFA currently sit second on the table with 28 points, two behind leaders Migori Youth FC. They will next face Launda Villa in their first away match of 2026 at Mumboha Stadium, Vihiga County, on Sunday.
Meanwhile, 3K FC have completed the signings of Harrison Mwandike from NSL newcomers Soy United and Javen Newton from Ishiara FC.
The club confirmed that both players will be available for selection when 3K face Fortune Sacco in the Majirani Derby on Sunday at Kianyaga Stadium, Kirinyaga County.
