Kenyan content creator recognised at Afcon 2025 influencer awards in Morocco

Kenyan digital creator @therealchiche has earned continental recognition in the Creative Spark Award at a pan-African influencer ceremony held at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco.

‎The award, in which Confederation of African Football (CAF) partnered with mobile phone maker, Tecno, celebrated creators whose work demonstrated originality and cultural relevance.

‎‎Chiche was second for content that captured the emotion, rhythm and everyday moments surrounding Africa’s biggest football tournament.

‎‎While Afcon is defined by the action on the pitch, its deeper impact lies in the way it brings people together across borders.

‎‎From neighbourhood viewing centres and street celebrations to online conversations, the tournament has become one of Africa’s strongest cultural connectors.

‎‎Chiche’s work focused on these shared experiences, documenting fan reactions, national pride and the human stories that unfold alongside the matches.

‎‎His storytelling reflected how football lives beyond the stadium — shaping identity, community and collective memory.

‎‎Among creators from more than 20 African countries, Chiche emerged as the only Kenyan award winner, marking an important moment for the country’s growing digital and creative sector.

‎‎Kenya was represented by a strong delegation of creators and media personalities, highlighting its increasing influence in Africa’s sports and culture-led storytelling space.

‎‎The recognition adds to Kenya’s rising profile as a hub for digital creativity, particularly in content that blends sport, youth culture and social commentary.
