Senator Hezena shares Christmas cheer, donates salary to supports PWDs

Nominated Senator Hezena Lemalet spent her Christmas giving back to vulnerable members of the community, saying her leadership is driven by compassion, faith and service to God.

The senator announced that she donated her salary to feed persons with disabilities in Samburu County and later supported elderly residents in her village.

She noted the groups are often forgotten, yet they deserve dignity and care.

“Shared Christmas joy this year donating my salary to feed PWDs of Samburu County and later the elderly at my village,” she said.

“Often forgotten but they matter. I am just a girl after God’s heart and my leadership is of service to God.”

Lemalet expressed deep gratitude to Grace Lempeei, whom she described as the driving force behind SHERP, a home for persons with disabilities, and praised staff members who work to protect and rehabilitate residents.

“Many of them were healed and reconnected with their families,” she noted.

The senator urged Samburu residents to treat people with disabilities with respect, drawing from her own personal story.

She revealed that she could not walk as a toddler due to a severe burn and her parents were advised to buy a wheelchair.

Despite that setback, she went on to excel in athletics, became a model, and later rose to represent her county in the Senate.

“I implore the Samburu people to never look down on the disabled of our community,” she said.

“You never know who that neglected child will be tomorrow. God is the master planner and He has a reason for everything”

She added, “You are not special to be normal, it’s just the grace of God. Things can change very fast any time.”

Lemalet also shared that she once came close to losing her eyesight but recovered.

The Senator said her own journey has strengthened her belief that no one should be written off.
