Nyanza clergy calls for peace, unity and national reconciliation

Religious leaders in Nyanza have called for unity, peace and national reconciliation following an interdenominational prayer meeting hosted by the Cabinet Secretary for Energy Opiyo Wandayi, in Ugunja.

Speaking on behalf of the Nyanza Council of Church Leaders, its chairperson Apostle Dr Washington Ogonyo Ngede thanked the Energy CS for providing a platform for prayer, reflection and counsel, saying the gathering was grounded in faith and national responsibility.

“The central purpose of this assembly was intercession. We prayed and committed ourselves to continually pray for unity among the people, that they may live as one,” Dr Ogonyo.

The church leaders said they offered prayers for peace in Kenya, urging citizens to embrace harmony as the foundation for growth and prosperity.

Quoting biblical teachings, they reminded Kenyans of the importance of prayer for leaders and those in authority.

The clergy also expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for what they described as steady leadership during challenging times.

They praised his commitment to dialogue and inclusive governance, particularly his willingness to engage in a broad-based national partnership aimed at fostering unity.

According to the church leaders, the President’s approach to reconciliation and consultation demonstrates statesmanship and a desire to build a cohesive nation that serves all Kenyans regardless of political affiliation or background.

“We recognise and appreciate the President’s supportive stance toward national unity. This honest engagement reflects a commitment to inclusive nation-building,” the statement read.

The religious leaders called on Kenyans across the country to support efforts aimed at peace, reconciliation and collective progress, saying unity is essential for meaningful development and dignity for all citizens.

The clergy further urged Kenyans to reject division and become builders and healers in their communities.

“Let us embrace our shared destiny. The vision for our nation can only be realized through collective prayer, hard work and goodwill,” Ogonyo said.
