Tusker eye key win against APS Bomet in Kericho

Tusker travel all the way to Kericho for a vital SportPesa League encounter against giant-slayers APS Bomet.

The brewers sit fifth on the log with 21 points, keen to consolidate their position in the top half, while APS Bomet languish 15th with just 13 points—a gap that has prompted questions about their survival bid.

Tusker head coach Okere sounded confident but wary.

“Kericho is a tough venue with unique conditions. APS Bomet will be determined, and we respect their threat, but our focus is on winning,” he said. “Every point counts at this stage of the season, and we are determined to get all three.”

The coach elaborated on his tactical preparations.

“We have been training on pressing and exploiting gaps. Defensively, we cannot afford lapses because APS Bomet thrives on counterattacks,” he added. “Set-pieces will also be crucial. We have rehearsed routines and hope to capitalise on every opportunity.”

Okere stressed adaptability as key.

“Football is dynamic. Kericho’s altitude and pitch conditions demand concentration. Players must adjust quickly and make intelligent decisions. We have the depth and tactical flexibility to respond to APS Bomet’s strategies,” he said.

Midfield control is central to Okere’s plan.

“Our midfield must dictate the tempo and maintain possession. The forwards are ready to exploit wide areas and supply precise crosses,” he noted. “Execution with precision and intelligence will decide the outcome.”

He also highlighted the mental aspect. “Every match tests character. Players must remain alert, disciplined, and focused. Winning here is crucial for our league ambitions,” Okere said. “We must approach APS Bomet with focus. Statistics may favour us, but complacency is dangerous. Our squad knows the stakes.”

Assistant coach Benedict Wanjala of APS Bomet struck a defiant tone. “We have studied Tusker extensively. They are strong and experienced, but we have identified their vulnerabilities and aim to exploit them,” he said. “Kericho is our home, and the crowd support will inspire us. Every match is a chance to improve our position.”

Wanjala also outlined his tactical blueprint. “Midfield coordination is key. Controlling tempo and staying compact defensively will allow us to remain competitive,” he added. “We intend to press high, disrupt Tusker’s build-up play, and take our chances whenever they arise.”

Confidence through preparation was another focus. “Our defensive unit is ready to handle Tusker’s wide players. We will counterattack quickly and capitalise on opportunities. The squad has trained rigorously for this encounter,” he said.

He emphasised discipline and execution. “Every player knows their role. Confidence comes from preparation and teamwork. We aim to execute our game plan flawlessly,” Wanjala noted. “This match is a chance to prove APS Bomet can compete with the top sides in the league.”

Home advantage is also a motivating factor. “Kericho offers a fantastic atmosphere. The support of our fans will push us to give our best. Players are motivated and ready to make a statement,” Wanjala said.

Wanjala concluded with a blend of defiance and ambition. “Tusker is formidable, but we are confident, disciplined, and determined. We aim to make our home advantage count and challenge their dominance,” he said. “This is more than a match; it’s a test of character and resilience.”

Elsewhere in Round 15, KCB FC host Shabana FC at Kasarani Stadium in a top-half clash. KCB will aim to consolidate momentum with structured midfield play, while Shabana plans to exploit counterattacks and pace on the wings.

Bandari FC face Mathare United at KPA Sports Club in Mbaraki, where the home side hopes to dominate possession and tempo, while Mathare United rely on tactical patience.

In Nairobi, Nairobi United welcome Gor Mahia at Dandora Stadium, a derby that promises intensity and high stakes, with Gor Mahia looking to control tempo and the hosts aiming to disrupt the champions with pressing football.
