Probe launched as retired teacher found dead outside home in Nakuru

Police are investigating the brutal murder of a retired teacher whose body was found outside his house in Likia, Njoro, Nakuru County.

Police said the body of Samuel Muchiri was discovered on Monday morning, December 15, 2025, long after the murder had occurred.

The motive for the murder was not immediately established, police in the area said.

The man was alone at the time of the incident.

Police said the man had visible deep cuts on the head, and his body lay outside his house.

A team of police officers who visited the scene said they are pursuing leads into the fatal attack. His house had been ransacked.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said.

In Kabras, Kakamega County, one Muhanji Lumasai died after being cut on the head with a panga during an altercation.

Police said the man succumbed to the injuries while receiving treatment in hospital.

A suspect was later arrested over the murder.

Police said he will face murder charges. Officers also visited the scene as part of the ongoing probe.

In Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, a loader was found murdered inside a lorry.

The body of Evans Murumbwa was discovered in the driver’s cabin with visible head injuries, police said.

Police said the loader was killed at dawn on Monday, and the motive is yet to be established.

The lorry driver had parked the vehicle, laden with maize, near a store along the Kiminini–Ndalu Road on December 12, 2025, before leaving for his home while off duty.

He returned on December 15 and found the loader, who had been staying in the cabin, dead.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.

Meanwhile, in the Nyamasaria area of Kisumu County, a one-year-old minor died after drowning in a pool of water near her home.

The family of the toddler said she wandered from the house to the spot where she drowned.

The body was later moved to the local mortuary pending an autopsy after police engaged the family for several hours.

The family had initially declined to release the body due to the cost of preservation and the autopsy.

However, after police explained the need for the process, they agreed to release the body.

Police said they are investigating the Sunday incident.
