Zohran Mamdani sends a strong message by choosing Lina Khan as co-chair

ew York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has started his transition to City Hall by announcing a strong leadership team. This includes the appointment of Lina Khan, former Chair of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) from 2021 to 2025, as a co-chair for his transition team.

Lina Khan is well-known for her actions at the FTC against large tech companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta. Khan’s inclusion is a message to stakeholders. Khan’s approach signals that the incoming team intends to govern proactively. Her role highlights economic policy and public accountability as top-tier in the mayoral agenda.

“Congratulations to Mayor-elect Mamdani on a remarkable campaign and victory. Honored to serve as co-chair of the transition as we work to build an administration that governs effectively and delivers a city where all New Yorkers can build a good life,” reads a post on X by Lina Khan.

Khan’s words highlight the two main focuses of this transition which are governance and equity. Mamdani is signaling that his new administration will shake things up and not just stick to the old ways.

Mamdani has said the transition will focus on building an administration that is driven by integrity and willing to work just as hard as the millions of New Yorkers who call the city their home.

The transition team gives hope to New York residents that Mamdani is pushing for real structural changes.
