Moses Kuria hints at ODM deputy pick for 2027 Nairobi race

Former presidential advisor Moses Kuria has signalled a possible cross-party partnership in the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race.

This is after posting a message and image that prominently featured Makadara MP George Aladwa of the ODM party

Kuria, who has already declared his intention to vie for the Nairobi governor seat, now appears to be eyeing him as his preferred deputy governor pick.

The image was designed with two bold captions: “Kuria Aladwa, the Nairobi Dream Team” at the top and “Make Nairobi Work Again (Manawa)” at the bottom.

Captions reading ‘Moses Kuria for Governor’ and ‘George Aladwa for Deputy Governor’ were also prominently displayed on the graphic.

In his post, the Chama cha Kazi party leader insisted that his approach to Nairobi politics is not driven by tribal or party considerations.

Instead, he framed his vision as grounded in shared values and a collective desire to improve the city.

“Not because of our tribes. Not because of our parties. Because we care for Nairobi. Because we understand what Nairobians are going through,” he posted.

He added that they possess the capacity to fix Nairobi, citing their combined experience and their local, regional, and global networks.

“Because we have many years of combined leadership and managerial experience. Because we are not tribal. Because we have what it takes to make Nairobi work again,” he wrote.

The timing of the hint aligns with Kuria’s recent declaration that he would seek the Nairobi governorship in 2027.

Weeks earlier, he said he was moved by President William Ruto’s candid remarks on the deteriorating state of the capital city—remarks that highlighted governance breakdowns, service delivery failures, and persistent financial mismanagement at City Hall.

Kuria argued that Nairobi risks losing its potential as a regional economic powerhouse unless drastic reforms are undertaken.

He said the sentiments have been shared with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and he is ready to get the job done.

“Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart. Like Prime Minister Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi cannot continue to be the city of filth, garbage and incompetence,” Kuria wrote on X.

“I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the Governor of the great County of Nairobi in 2027. I will fix Nairobi.”

Kuria joins a crowded list of many governor hopefuls who intend to challenge incumbent Johnson Sakaja for the seat.

Others are MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), and business woman Agnes Kagure, former PS Irungu Nyakera, with many more expected to show interest as we edge closer to the elections.
