Kenyan golfers will feature on PGA Tour within two years, says Gachora

NCBA Group managing director John Gachora has tipped Kenyan golfers to compete on the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour within the next two years.

Speaking during the 2025 NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale at Muthaiga Golf and Country Club, Gachora said, “My desire and that of the bank is to see Kenyan golfers playing on the American professional tour, and with the structure we have laid over the past five years, we can get there.”

Once Kenyan golfers make the PGA Tour, participation in the Olympics will naturally follow, he said.

“Our dream was two-pronged: to see players on the PGA Tour and, in turn, grace the Olympics in 2028 in Los Angeles. I believe it is something that can be achieved within two years,” he noted.

He highlighted the success of the NCBA Golf Series, particularly in partnership with the Professional Golfers of Kenya and the Equity Tour.

“We want to see our golfers being rewarded and living off their craft. With this series, we hope it will evolve into a fully professional platform, allowing Kenyan golfers to become millionaires in the sport, just like their peers in Europe and America,” observed Gachora.

Since its launch in 2020, the series has raised the standard of golf in Kenya, leading to improved scores and competitive play.

“When we started the series five years ago, the scores recorded were very dismal. But due to improvements, increased exposure, and more tournaments, the play has improved. We are seeing better scores being attained by the golfers,” he said.

Gachora noted that the series has encouraged junior tournaments across East Africa, with some players qualifying for the World Junior rankings.

“If we can have more juniors taking up the sport and playing at a competitive level, golf will be in good hands in the years to come,” he said.

Furthermore, NCBA has partnered with the Kenya Golf Union to launch an Amateur Golf Tournament, providing opportunities for golfers across East Africa to compete and earn through the series.
