Environmentalist and influencer Anita Soina has criticised Gen Zs for being loud on social media and doing so little when it comes to registering as voters. Source: Facebook Soina was reacting to the recently held by-elections across the country that many hoped would be won by the opposition team led by Rigathi Gachagua and allies. The majority of the seats were swept by UDA and ODM members, with President William Ruto congratulating them for their success. From images shown on social media, most of the voters who were captured were the older generation, who showed up to do their civic duties.
It is also important to note that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) used the 2022 register for the election, so Gen Zs who registered could not participate in the voting process. What did Anita Soina tell Gen Zs? Soina took to her Instagram Instasory to urge Gen Zs to consider registering if they want to bring any changes they keep talking about online. “It is too hot, I cannot stand in the sun for too long. You see that small effort, nobody is going to bring the ballot boxes on Facebook, TikTok or X. At the moment, we do not have an online voting system, and that is the reality, so we have to live with it. We have all seen the pictures, who was in the queue and who was not. I am just here to remind you that anybody who does not bother to vote has no moral authority to tell anyone who voted that you made the wrong decision,” she said.
