The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is mourning the passing of its board member, Richie Munyao, who served from 2023 until his untimely death.
In a notice contained in a local daily, the Authority extended heartfelt condolences to his family, describing him as an emerging leader whose contributions to road safety reforms were invaluable.
During his tenure, Munyao brought exceptional intellect, calm authority, and a strong moral compass to the Board, particularly through his work on the Road Safety and Audit Committees.
His colleagues note that his sharp insights and unwavering standards were instrumental in shaping key reforms aimed at improving Kenya’s road safety landscape.
“Richie’s legacy lives on in every life saved because he cared deeply and consistently championed safer roads for all,” the NTSA said in a statement.
Tributes have poured in from the road safety community and beyond, with many describing Munyao as a remarkable leader whose vision and commitment will be deeply missed.
His work, passion, and dedication to public service have left an indelible mark on NTSA and the nation, ensuring that his memory will continue to inspire those committed to safer roads.
The Agency’s board chairperson Khatib Mwashetani said he received the news with shock.
This, as he conveyed condolences to his family.
“On behalf of the NTSA Board of Directors, the entire organisation, and myself, I extend our deepest condolences to the family of the late Richie,” he said in a post.
Munyao was born in 1987.
He passed away on November 21, 2025.
Munyao, he said, was a young, vibrant, and dedicated professional whose contributions were instrumental in shaping NTSA into a stronger and better institution.
“His absence will be profoundly felt by all of us,” he said.
Munyao is survived by his son, Charlie Muoki Munyac, and his parents, Michael Munyao of Electrogen Technologies Ltd and Evelyn Munyao of Green & Gold Led.
He also leaves behind cherished siblings Phil Chege Munyao of Innovo and Natasha Ngina Munyac in Canada.
Richie was the treasured grandson of the late Mweka Munyao and Susan Ngina Munyao of Mitaboni, and the late Philip Chege and Esther Gathoni Chage.
“Family and friends will gather for prayers and funeral arrangements at Karura Community Chapel, off Limuru Road, on Tuesday, November 25 2025, from 6 pm,” the notice reads.
“A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place Thursday, November 27, at 2 pm at the same chapel.”
The funeral cortege will depart from Lee Funeral Home on Friday, November 28, at 4.30 am, proceeding to the family home in Nanyuki for the final burial rites.
