President William Ruto is expected to leave the country on Monday afternoon for Luanda, Angola, to attend the 7th African Union–European Union Summit and the Second Session of the Ad Hoc Oversight Committee on African Union Institutional Reform.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed in a statement said the President will chair the reform session in his role as the AU Champion for Institutional Reform.
According to the statement, the AU–EU Summit will allow leaders to review “two decades of Africa-Europe cooperation” and respond to new pressures linked to shifting geopolitical priorities, funding gaps, and rising security threats.
Kenya will use the meeting to push for “predictable financing for African-led peace operations,” enhanced counter-terrorism efforts, stronger border security collaboration, and joint climate action.
The President is also expected to hold a series of bilateral talks with European leaders. The engagements will focus on expanding trade and investment and fast-tracking the implementation of the Kenya–EU Economic Partnership Agreement.
The statement says President Ruto will highlight opportunities under Kenya’s economic transformation plan, including public-private-partnership-ready projects such as “large-scale irrigation supported by mega dams,” expansion of clean and industrial energy, and major infrastructure upgrades that cover “roads, airports, ports, and railways.”
Ruto will later co-chair the AU Institutional Reform Ad Hoc Committee of Heads of State. In this session, he will brief fellow leaders on progress made in implementing reform mandates intended to strengthen governance, peace and security, and the AU’s financial independence.
The State House statement notes that the overall reform agenda aims to “reinforce African unity” and improve the continent’s capacity to act decisively in a rapidly changing world.
State House described the trip as key to advancing Kenya’s priorities at the continental and global levels.
The spokesperson said the engagements in Luanda reflect Kenya’s commitment to promoting regional cooperation and strengthening the institutions that support Africa’s long-term stability and development.
