Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has declared himself “the senior-most political leader” in the Mt Kenya region. He said this on Wednesday November 19, 2025, during a public engagement in Indurani, Mukothima Ward, Tharaka Nithi, adding a new dimension to the ongoing conversations about the bloc’s political direction.
Speaking during the meeting with local leaders and residents, Kindiki said:
“Mimi nasaidia Rais katika kuongoza Kenya, na kuchangia katika maendeleo ya hii Kenya yote, kaunti zote arubaini na saba. Lakini nikiwa hapa nyumbani I am the senior most political leader in Mt Kenya region, for the avoidance of doubt.”
For months, the region has been split between leaders backing Gachagua and those positioning Kindiki as the emerging kingpin. During the meeting Kindiki added that since he was inside the government and Gachagua wasn’t, Gachagua had no reason to declare himself as influential in the region.
“Mimi niko ndani, wewe uko nje alafu unatuambia ati wewe ndio kusema hapa,” he added, addressing the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The Deputy President promised residents “billions” in development projects; roads, electricity, new markets, county industrial parks and many more.
By centering his visit around concrete development issues, Kindiki ties his claim of seniority to real action, not just rhetoric.
