TVS Motor Company, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of two- and three-wheelers, has officially launched the TVS Apache RTR 180 in Kenya an entry expected to stimulate local economic activity, expand the premium motorcycle market, and generate new jobs across the country.

The launch, conducted in partnership with long-standing distributor Car & General, marks a strategic milestone for the company as it deepens its presence in East Africa.Kenya’s motorcycle industry has grown rapidly over the past decade, becoming an essential driver of mobility, employment, and small business development.

Industry observers note that more than 1.5 million Kenyans rely directly or indirectly on motorcycle-related income through boda-boda transport, delivery services, spare parts businesses, and repair workshops.

The introduction of a premium performance motorcycle like the Apache RTR 180 is expected to create ripple effects throughout this ecosystem, supporting job creation and strengthening the livelihoods of thousands.
The new model will be sold through 12 Car & General dealerships nationwide. These expanded sales and service points are expected to generate employment for additional technicians, sales executives, spare parts specialists, and after-sales support teams.

Logistics networks that distribute motorcycles, parts, and accessories are also set to benefit, adding more indirect opportunities for Kenyan workers. The TVS Apache RTR 180 brings a new performance benchmark to Kenya’s motorcycle landscape. It is powered by a 177.4cc engine delivering 15.22 PS and 14.1 Nm of torque, supported by a race-tuned suspension system, front and rear disc brakes, tubeless tyres, a signature beast-inspired LED headlamp, and a 5-speed gearbox.

The motorcycle is priced at approximately USD 2,090, converted from the local KES 269,990 retail price. It is offered in four colours: Pearl White, Matte Blue, Gloss Black, and Matte Grey.

Speaking at the launch, Peyman Kargar, President, International Business, TVS Motor Company, highlighted Kenya’s significance in the company’s Africa expansion plan.

“Kenya is central to TVSM’s continental ambitions, given its role as a regional commercial hub and its influence on motorcycle culture,” he said. “The introduction of the Apache RTR 180 strengthens our commitment to serving Kenyan consumers while contributing to the growth of local industries and mobility-driven livelihoods.”

The launch coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Apache brand now enjoyed by more than 6.5 million riders across over 60 countries. Its arrival in Kenya underscores the brand’s global appeal and reflects rising demand for performance-oriented mobility solutions in the region.

Car & General CEO Vijay Gidoomal said the Apache RTR 180 is tailored for Kenya’s diverse riding environments.

“This launch brings advanced performance and reliability to young, ambitious riders,” he said. “We expect the Apache to accelerate the growth of Kenya’s premium motorcycle segment and create new opportunities across the value chain. As demand rises, so will employment in dealership operations, servicing, training, and support roles.”The expansion aligns with TVS Motor’s broader innovation strategy. The company has significantly increased its R&D investment from USD 55.9 million in FY 2022–23 to USD 116 million in FY 2024–25, demonstrating its commitment to clean, connected, and tech-enabled mobility.

With a team of over 2,000 engineers and technical specialists, TVS continues to build a strong pipeline of future-ready products aimed at boosting economic opportunities in its global markets, including Kenya.

As Kenya continues to focus on industrial growth and job creation, the motorcycle sector remains a critical enabler of both national economic performance and grassroots entrepreneurship.

With the TVS Apache RTR 180 entering the market, stakeholders anticipate not just an uplift in premium mobility choices but also broader economic benefits from employment growth to increased business activity across the entire motorcycle value chain.

The Apache RTR 180’s launch reaffirms Kenya’s position as a preferred destination for global mobility brands and offers Kenyan consumers access to world-class performance, engineering, and value.
