The game was rained off on Sunday in the 40th minute at Mumboha grounds in Vihiga County and was restarted from the 40th minute at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
By the time of postponement, 3K were leading 1-0 thanks to Oscar Juma’s strike. The game would not proceed at the Mumboha due to the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary (KCSE) examinations and was moved to Kisumu.
In Kisumu on Monday morning, captain Daniel Wabwire aka Dante scored in the 50th minute to give the visitors a 2-0 win.
3K coach Francis Chege said: “It was a good game. My players played according to our plan on Sunday and Monday. We studied how they play and capitalised on their weaknesses to score the two goals,” said Chege.
“At the moment, we are not looking at the table. Our target is to amass as many points as possible, then, from March, we will see where we are. Our target is to win the NSL and qualify for the SportPesa League,” noted the tactician.
Chege said he has shifted his focus to their next game against newbies Gucha Stars on Saturday at Moi Stadium in Embu. “Gucha is a good team with an experienced coach. We can’t underrate them because they are new in the second-tier league,” he added. Gucha Stars on Saturday beat Nzoia Sugar 2-1 to end their seven game unbeaten run.
Following the win, 3K moved to third on the log, leapfrogging Kibera Black Stars and Naivas. Black Stars suffered a shock 2-0 loss against newcomers Soy United at Eldoret showground on Sunday. Joseph Wafula and Clinton Oriffah were on target for Soy United.
“It was a game we won in the first half because of our quick transitions. The second half was evenly balanced. This was a huge win for us against the experienced Kibera Black Stars,” said the Soy United coach Jeffers Odongo.
Naivas were held to a barren draw by Equity Bank FC.
3K FC is third on the log after eight rounds of games 15 points. Migori Youth leads the log with 19 points, and Mombasa United is second with 16 points. Mombasa United on Saturday suffered a shock 2-0 loss against Kisumu All Stars.
In other games played on Sunday, Mwatate United held hosts Darajani Gogo to a barren draw while Talanta piled more misery on Vihiga United after beating them 2-0. Brian Lusamukha and Brian Nyambane scored for Talanta FC.
Newcomers Kabati Youth dropped to the bottom of the log despite their barren draw against Mully Children’s Family (MCF)
