Former president Uhuru Kenyatta has moved many Kenyans after donating KSh 1 million to the family of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo.
Bayo, a beloved musician whose worship songs touched thousands, died after a private battle with cancer — a struggle many Kenyans only learnt about after her passing.
The news of her illness and sudden death left the country in shock. During a recent gathering, fellow gospel artiste Ben Githae revealed that the former head of state had made a significant contribution toward the upcoming funeral arrangements.
“After Uhuru Kenyatta donated KSh 1 million for the burial through the Kenyatta Foundation, he also asked for the names of Betty Bayo’s children so the foundation can sponsor their education,” Githae announced.
Bayo’s Family Fundraiser and Kanyari’s Appreciation
The donation comes at a time when Bayo’s family has been fundraising to give her a dignified send-off. Upon hearing the news, her ex-husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari, publicly expressed his gratitude.
The preacher, who shares two children — Sky Victor and Danny — with the late musician, took to social media where he had earlier posted clips bonding with his son.
Kanyari has previously been open about their co-parenting journey, noting that despite the challenges in their former marriage, they maintained a peaceful relationship for the sake of their children.
“She was a very good woman, even in terms of co-parenting,” he said. “I have been paying the children’s school fees, and we would collaborate on many issues without any disagreements.”
Kenyans Praise Uhuru’s Gesture
Kenyans online praised Uhuru for stepping in to support the grieving family. Reactions included messages such as:
-
- “The God she served will never leave her children to suffer. There is always a reward for serving God.”
- “Uhuru has been sent by God to settle this matter once and for all.”
- “Now that Uhuru is taking over school fees, what happens next?”
- “But why assume their father cannot provide? He’s been present and paying their fees.”
- “God closes one door and opens another. Her dream was quality education for her children, and God has provided.”
Kanyari Shares Bonding Moments With His Son
As tributes continue to pour in, Kanyari has been sharing more moments with his children.
In a recent video, he is seen playing football with his son Danny inside their home, before the game moves outdoors onto a neatly kept lawn.
The warm father–son interaction is set to a touching Octa Sounds song, with the preacher echoing the message displayed on the screen: “Nitakupenda milele.”

Preacher Defends His Role as a Present Father
The video surfaced shortly after Kanyari voiced his displeasure with individuals who claimed they could care for his children now that their mother is gone.
He questioned why anyone would attempt to take custody while he is still alive and actively providing for them.
He also acknowledged that Betty Bayo’s widower, Tash, has every right to maintain a relationship with the children, saying he lived with them and treated them well when their mother was still alive.
