Babu Owino says 7 in 10 Nairobians believe he’ll be their next governor

Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino is once again stirring political conversation after he claimed he believes a majority of Nairobi residents will back his bid to become the city’s next governor.

According to a video update while he was at a reunion party for the Former Students’ Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) the MP stated that seven out of ten Nairobians are confident that he will take over City Hall come 2027.

“The next petrol station utaingia, the next person you meet in town, ask them a simple question, who is going to be the next governor of Nairobi? Out of 10 if 7 don’t say Babu, block my number and delete!“

He further added that he intends to serve only one term as governor, before shifting his presidential ambitions to the 2032 elections.

The video immediately sparked online buzz with “Babu kwa Sababu” fans agreeing that he will win the gubernatorial seat come 2027.

Babu Owino has been vocal about contesting the Nairobi gubernatorial race, regularly referencing corruption, youth empowerment, and service delivery as key reasons he believes he should lead the capital city.

Over the past year, he has also increased his public political appearances, charity events, university engagements, and social media messaging, all moves viewed by many as strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 polls.

His aspiration for the presidency, however, adds a new twist. The declaration demonstrates a structured and long-term political roadmap beyond his parliamentary seat.

Nairobi remains one of Kenya’s most competitive and influential political battlegrounds, and any candidate who successfully governs the capital typically gains national visibility.
