Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has named the two teams that will challenge his former club in the Champions League this season. Arsenal have only lost one game so far this season. Arsenal have caught the attention of everyone with their impressive start to the season, as they seek to challenge for trophies on all fronts. It has been six years since the Emirates Stadium saw a major trophy, something Mikel Arteta’s side are keen on changing this season. After three consecutive second-place finishes, the Gunners brought in new players, looking to go the entire mile this season. They have since opened a six-point gap at the top after 10 games.
In the Champions League, they have made a perfect start, winning four out of four games, including a demolition job of Atletico Madrid. On Tuesday, they beat Slavia Prague 3-0 to move joint-top with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan on 12 points. Arsene Wenger reveals Champions League favourites Speaking after that game, Wenger revealed that only Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain can challenge for the Champions League this season. “I would say they’re the two teams who can win the Champions League this season, outside England. One of the other teams, of course, could be Real Madrid, but Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain, no one wonders in their league they will win their championship,” he said on BeIN Sports via Metro UK. Weger believes Bayern Munich and PSG will walk their leagues, allowing them to focus on Europe only. The two teams met on Wednesday, where Bayern won 2-1 thanks to an early Luis Diaz brace before he was sent off for a horror challenge on Achraf Hakimi. “Paris Saint-Germain at the moment are not at their best, Real Madrid at Liverpool are fighting to be their best, then Bayern are in full power.” Wenger came close to winning the Champions League with Arsenal in 2006 when they reached the final but lost to Barcelona 2-1. Up next for Arsenal in the Champions League will be a heavyweight home clash against Bayern Munich.
