Eliud Kipchoge 17th As Benson Kipruto Wins 2025 New York Marathon

Benson Kipruto beat Alexander Mutiso in a sprint finish to win the 2025 New York Marathon on Sunday evening. Benson Kipruto won the 2025 New York Marathon on November 2. Kipruto became the first man to win all the marathon majors in the United States after previous wins in Chicago and Boston. Benson Kipruto wins New York Marathon He was forced to dig deep for it as Mutiso threatened to steal it on the line. Both men were awarded a 2:08:09 finish. It was a Kenyan clean sweep as Albert Korir clocked 2:08:57 to complete the podium places. Meanwhile, it was a tough outing for Eliud Kipchoge as he finished outside the top 10. Kipchoge was forced to settle for 17th place with a time of 2:14.36.  Eliud Kipchoge completes marathon majors Kipchoge, who promised to make a huge announcement after this race, came into New York looking to complete all the marathon majors. The double Olympic champion raced in Sydney at the end of August but was upbeat about completing the five boroughs in the Big Apple before making the huge announcement. He has won four of the seven marathons, including five times in Berlin, four times in London and once each in Chicago and Tokyo. He finished sixth in Boston before taking ninth in Sydney ahead of the New York race. Kipchoge started nicely, maintaining pace with the lead group as they crossed the first 5K mark in a time of 15:11. There was nothing much to separate the lead group until American Hillary Bor attempted to break away after the 25K mark. Bor’s lead was short-lived as the Kenyans swamped him to take charge of the race. The lead at the front remained closely knit until Mutiso and Kipruto went forward. The 34-year-old has won in Boston (2021), Chicago (2022) and in Tokyo last year. “The last part is so hard. I was giving myself morale, saying, ‘Come on, you can win it. Come on.’ And I was pushing so hard to make sure I win,” Kipruto said after the race.
