Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s close allies have paid a courtesy call to acting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Oginga. Rigathi Gachagua’s allies gifted Senator Oburu Oginga three sheep. The visit comes days after it was revealed that Gachagua was planning to visit former prime minister Raila Odinga’s grave in Bondo to pay his last respects. On Wednesday, October 29, Kiambu senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and his Nyandarua counterpart, John Methu, visited Oburu’s home. Why did Gachagua’s allies visit Oburu Oginga? In a post on Facebook, Karungo disclosed that they went to pay their respects to the family following Raila’s death. He noted that they used the visit to comfort Oburu as he steps into the leadership gap left behind by the former prime minister. “Early this morning, my brother Sen.
Methu and I paid a courtesy call to the Acting ODM party leader and our colleague in the Senate, Sen. Oburu Odinga, at his home. We went to pay our respects and offer comfort, especially as he takes on the great responsibility of stepping into the late Raila Odinga’s shoes,” Karungo said. In their early morning visit, they carried with them three sheep as a gift to the acting ODM party leader. The Kiambu senator noted that they were privileged as young leaders to learn from the wisdom of the Siaya senator. “As young leaders, we had the privilege to learn from his deep wisdom, shared through his endless stories and real-life experiences,” he noted. Senator Karungo Thang’wa shared details of their visit to Oburu Oginga’s home. Did Gachagua plan to visit Raila’s grave?
Their visit comes days after a section of ODM party officials warned Gachagua against visiting Odinga’s family home in Bondo. Gachagua had scheduled to visit Bondo for Wednesday, October 22, but cancelled at the last minute following a viral video of Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga “celebrating” Raila’s death. Remarks by the Nyeri governor, a close ally of the former deputy president, attracted criticism from ODM leaders. Speaking during the same press briefing, Kisumu Market Milimani MCA Seth Ochieng Kanga, popularly known as Adui Nyang’, warned Gachagua against visiting Raila’s home, saying his presence would not be welcomed.
