Kenyan ODM youth leader Kasmuel McOure has shared a heartwarming story about the late Raila Odinga’s generosity, recalling moments that showcased the former Prime Minister’s kindness and humility.
Speaking during an interview with Nixon Njau, Kasmuel revealed that the least amount of money Raila ever gave him was KSh 100,000, an experience he describes as unforgettable.
“I think Baba really spoiled me because first we went to Karen we had breakfast. You know people say that Raila doesn’t give people money. When we finished breakfast and wanted to leave, he told us to wait for a bit, then gave each of us KSh 100,000 cash. That’s the least amount he has ever given me,” Kasmuel recalled.

A Glimpse into Raila’s Generous Spirit
Kasmuel’s revelation paints a picture of Raila Odinga’s generosity, a trait that many of his allies, staff, and supporters have often spoken about.
Despite his powerful political stature, Raila was known for his down-to-earth personality and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
According to those who knew him closely, the ODM leader believed in uplifting others, especially young people pursuing their dreams.
His acts of generosity — often carried out quietly — extended beyond financial assistance to mentorship, education sponsorships, and emotional support.
Who Is Kasmuel McOure?
Kasmuel McOure is a renowned performing artist, youth activist, and political mobilizer who rose to national prominence in 2024 during the Gen Z–led Finance Bill protests.
He became one of the most recognizable faces of the youth movement, using his voice and platform to rally Kenyans against what many saw as unfair taxation and government excesses.

Both online and on the streets, Kasmuel emerged as a leading voice for accountability and social justice, earning widespread admiration among Kenya’s youth.
In November 2024, Kasmuel officially joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the political party founded by Raila Odinga. His move followed a meeting with Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who serves as ODM’s national chairperson.
Kasmuel announced that the party was ready to revive its youth and student leagues nationwide, signaling a renewed focus on young leadership and participation.
“If you are ready to join a great political movement for a just, democratic Kenya where everyone can live with dignity, consider @TheODMparty—the largest grassroots-supported party in East and Central Africa,” he said during his declaration.
A Legacy of Generosity and Guidance
Kasmuel’s memories add to the growing tributes celebrating Raila Odinga’s generosity and mentorship. The late opposition leader, affectionately known as Baba, was often described as a man who believed in empowering the youth and giving opportunities to those who showed determination and vision.

For Kasmuel, the breakfast meeting and the life lessons he received from Raila remain moments he will forever cherish. He believes that Raila’s legacy goes beyond politics — it is about compassion, generosity, and lifelong learning.
As Kenya continues to mourn the passing of Raila Odinga, stories like Kasmuel’s provide a glimpse into the leader’s personal side — one that was nurturing, giving, and wise. His influence on young leaders like Kasmuel McOure demonstrates how Baba’s mentorship extended far beyond the political arena, touching lives and shaping futures.
