Nairobi Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, who was among the first responders at the scene, confirmed that the incident happened a few minutes past 11pm. According to footage shared by Mosiria, the bus had overturned and lay on its side as police officers and members of the public worked to rescue trapped passengers.

He revealed witnesses’ accounts that pointed to speeding as the possible cause of the crash. “I received a call from a resident in Nairobi at 23 hours informing me about an accident involving a City Hoppa bus on Valley Road. Those who were here have told us that the bus was overspeeding but that is a subject of confirmation by the authorities,” he said. How many people died in Valley Road crash? The chief environment officer confirmed that the last trapped passenger had been rescued, though there were fears the person had succumbed to injuries. “The person who was run over by the bus has been rescued, but it appears the victim has died. Police officers will take the body to the mortuary and inform the family,” Mosiria said.
He called on law enforcement and transport authorities to reintroduce the Michuki traffic rules, emphasising the need for strict enforcement of seatbelt use, speed governors, and urban speed limits to safeguard lives. “Drivers must ensure passengers wear seatbelts and that speed governors are reinstated. Fatigue also contributes to such incidents—if you’ve worked all day, please rest,” he urged
