Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has declared that President William Ruto will hand over power to ‘cousins’ from the Luo-Nyanza community after serving two terms Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi stated that Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027 is a done deal. During a meeting on Friday, October 3, at Jonyo Mixed Secondary School, Karachuonyo constituency, Homa Bay county, in support of their initiative to acquire a school bus, Mbadi stated that 2027 would be an opportune time for Nyanza. The CS used the analogy of the weeding process, stating that in the 2027 polls, the Luo community will have to back Ruto’s re-election so that his community reciprocates the support.
“2027 is our chance as the Luo community to unite with the Kalenjin and weed so that in 2032 we return to them so that they help us in weeding. Because even we our time has come,” he declared amid cheers. The CS further expressed confidence that the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party will endorse Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027. Mbadi dismissed claims that ODM had not decided its political future, emphasising his experience as the party’s longest-serving national chairman. “The president in 2027, we’ve already decided, and there is nothing that ODM will think, that one we’ve already accepted, and I was the longest serving chairman of ODM in this country. We’re going to unite with Ruto in 2027, and we’re organising ourselves for 2032. Has the time come or not? Is anyone against that? We have to organise ourselves also, and by the way, since Ruto became president has been seen,” he told the crowd.
Who will succeed Ruto after 2032? According to the CS, a new generation of leaders is expected to succeed Ruto after his two terms, signalling a shift from the current opposition lineup. The CS expressed his confidence that Ruto will easily beat the current opposition leaders, pointing out their flaws. Mbadi addresses a past meeting in his office. He pointedly criticised potential contenders, describing former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i as politically immature, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as inept, and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s focus on Mt Kenya politics as disqualifying for the presidency. “This thing is not going back to the likes of Kalonzo, I’m telling you this freely. This thing moves from Ruto and will go to a new generation of leaders. And he’ll go for two terms. If you are still thinking that you sleep and dream that there is somebody going to defeat Ruto, there is none. Because if you look at them, they’re confused,” Mbadi stated.
