A heartbroken family in Bomachoge, Kisii county, is struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one. Violet Mokobi Nyokabi met her fate on Friday, September 26, just a month after joining Rongo University. The young lady was found unconscious in her hostel room and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Anna’s last conversation with daughter Violet Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the 19-year-old’s mum, Anna Nyamusi, was shattered by the news as she recalled her last phone call with her daughter. “On the fateful day she died, she called me in the morning asking for money to buy sugar. I sent her KSh 350 because it was the only money I had. I told her I would ask her father for money in the evening to send her,” Anna said.
She went about her errands, including going to the market to fetch a few things for the house, unaware that she had spoken to her daughter for the last time. Violet’s mum learns about daughter’s death She did not call her teenage daughter again during the day, planning instead to call in the evening, but it was she who received a call. “Someone called me and identified herself as Mama Mercy, my daughter’s landlady. She told me my daughter had been found unconscious in her room and had been taken to Rosewood Hospital. I immediately asked if she was dead, but before I got a response, my phone dropped. I tried to call the number back, but I was shaking. A moment later, my husband’s phone rang. A man asked if he was Violet’s father, and he affirmed. I do not know if he was a doctor or a police officer, but he said our daughter was dead,” she narrated.
Violet’s family view her body in hospital Anna and her husband rushed to the hostel where their daughter had been staying, hoping to get more answers. When they got there, they found the gate closed, and it took a while before the landlady came out. “She told us she could not open Violet’s room because the police had locked it and gone with the keys. We asked where she had been taken, and we were told the hospital’s name. We were not familiar with the medical facility, so we kept asking for directions as we journeyed. Finally, when we arrived, we found our daughter’s body lying on the table. There was a smell of a substance all over her body. I could not tell what it was, but it was similar to the smell that had come from her room earlier,” she said. What’s Violet’s cause of death? They returned the following day and found a puzzling yet significant update about their daughter, who was a first-year student.
Anna said there was a white substance coming from her daughter’s mouth, and when a postmortem was performed, the doctors said Violet had ingested a substance. “We did not follow up further on the same. Even with the police report, we are not pursuing it because we do not have the energy or resources. My husband fell ill after our daughter’s death. He is in disbelief; he cannot accept what happened to our daughter,” she said. Neighbours share Violet’s last moments In another story, Violet’s neighbours narrated her final movements before she was found lying on the floor of her room. That night, she was seen carrying a bucket that had fluid, which she went to pour far from her residence. When she returned, the neighbours heard a loud thud and rushed into her room, only to find her on the floor.
