Sofapaka head coach Ezekiel Akwana has demanded more bite from his forwards as Batoto Ba Mungu go in search of their first victory of their 2025/26 campaign on Friday, when they lock horns with Kakamega Homeboyz at the Dandora Stadium.
The 2009 champions began their league season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against AFC Leopards on September 20.
Satala Djafari opened the scoring early on, only for Boniface Munyendo to cancel it out.
Their second outing, however, ended in disappointment as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat to record champions Gor Mahia.
Ebenezer Adukwa struck twice to hand K’Ogalo all the points.
Akwana has challenged his front line to sharpen up to secure a flawless win on Friday.
“In the final third, we are not maintaining possession and our finishing is poor,” Akwana admitted.
“We need to improve on that to be able to secure a win on Friday.”
The tactician also bemoaned a lack of cohesion in midfield, which he felt undermined their chances against Gor Mahia.
“We did not play well, our midfield was not functional in the match. That is also an area we need to work on in training,” he noted.
Even so, Akwana was keen to underline the positives, particularly in defence.
“Our backline played very well and the goalkeeper was also very good despite conceding the goals,” he added.
Sofapaka will take heart from their record against Homeboyz last season.
In the first leg, they claimed a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Baron Ochieng and Daniel Otieno, before settling for a goalless draw in the reverse fixture.
However, they face a Homeboyz side desperate to secure their first League win of the season.
Their opener against Mara Sugar at the Awendo Green Stadium ended goalless.
Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo highlighted a need to create chances.
“We did not create more chances in the match, so that is something we need to work on. When in possession, we are also not pushing more players forward,” the tactician said.
Despite the draw, Odhiambo was pleased with picking up a point away from home.
“I am thankful we were able to walk away with a point on the road. The match was not easy.”
The tactician noted he expects a tough contest against Batoto Ba Mungu.
“Sofapaka is a tough team, but I believe as we keep on playing, we will keep improving to secure victories,” he noted.
