Cleophas Malala Changes Tune, Endorses Mukhisa Kituyi’s Appointment: “Naunga Mkono”

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) deputy leader Cleophas Malala has changed his stand regarding the appointment of Mukhisa Kituyi as the spokesperson of the United Opposition. Cleophas Malala Changes Tune, Endorses Mukhisa Kituyi’s Appointment: “Naunga Mkono”  Malala had earlier objected to the naming of Kituyi as the spokesperson and head of the United Opposition’s secretariat. However, in a change of heart, Malala on Sunday, September 7, announced that he has changed his mind regarding the decision by the opposition leaders to appoint Kituyi. “I fully support the decision by my Party Leader and the summit leadership in integrating the elderly for experience and youth for valour, energy and creativity. I, however, remain steadfast in advocating for youthful leadership because youth is what propels nations,” Malala said.

The former Kakamega senator disclosed that his change of heart followed a meeting he held with his party leader, Rigathi Gachagua.  According to Malala, the former deputy president had explained to him in detail why the opposition leaders settled in Kituyi to head the secretariat. Gachagua confirmed that he had spoken to Malala and advised him to support the integration of the elderly and the young leaders in the opposition’s leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election. “The other day we appointed Mukhisa Kituyi to help us, and my deputy Malala a capable young and good leader who helps me a lot, but he raised concerns that we chose an older person to lead the secretariat and it should be young people only to be given such opportunities,” Gachagua said.
