The wife of the Malava UDA aspirant who collapsed and died on Friday, Dr. Enock Andanje, received the sad news of her husband’s death while on her way to work.

Alice Andanje, who teaches at St. Cecilia Lufumbo Secondary School in Butere Sub-County, said they had breakfast together before he left for a function at Bulupi, leaving her behind.

“I left later for school, but I received a call from one of the people who had accompanied him while still on the way at around 10 a.m., and the caller told me that my husband had collapsed and was rushed to the hospital,” she said.

“I told the caller that I was following them. I went to the office and did a little work before I received a second call and this time the caller said that my husband wanted to talk to me. I rushed to Oasis Hospital, where he had been taken,” she added.

She said that she sensed something was amiss by looking at the faces of those she found at the hospital before a doctor broke the sad news to her.

She said that Andanje did not have any known underlying medical conditions and was in good health when he left home.

His mother, Selina Musambayi, said she spoke to her son before he left for the day’s functions and he did not complain of anything.

His elder brother, Francis Kumuti, said the late Andanje had told him that he was sure of becoming the next Malava MP. His younger brother, Mark Mukalo, said his sugar levels dropped when he learned of his brother’s death.

“Let us be calm and avoid speculations about my brother’s death,” he said.

The late Andanje was among the aspirants vying for the UDA ticket in the upcoming Malava by-election.

He collapsed as he entered an empowerment forum for widows at Bulupi, presided over by PCS Musalia Mudavadi, on Friday.

He was rushed to Oasis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
