A soldier collapsed and died while jogging within a military camp in Isiolo town.

The incident happened on Tuesday, July 22, and left Senior Sergeant Humphrey Opondo, 48, dead, officials said.

The military police and those from the regular police were informed of the incident that happened at the School of Military Engineering.

Preliminary findings show the soldier was among a group that was on a routine morning physical exercise when he collapsed and died.

He was rushed to a local dispensary where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the cause of the death was not immediately established.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

The soldier’s family was later informed of the incident.

Meanwhile, a passenger died in a bus as it raced to Nairobi from Mandera town.

The driver of the bus told police he was racing through Rhamu-Elwak-Garissa Road on Tuesday when a passenger requested him to stop for him to go for a call of nature.

He said he stopped and allowed him to get out and came back minutes later.

And after driving for about an hour, the driver was alerted by other passengers that the passenger was unresponsive.

The passengers said he was dead. The driver said he stopped the bus and checked on the passenger, confirming he was dead.

He later drove to Elwak town, several kilometres away, where he reported the matter.

It was established that the victim had medical documents indicating he was headed for Nairobi for medical attention.

The body was taken to a local mortuary where an autopsy was conducted and the body released for burial.

Police did not disclose what the autopsy report said was the cause of the death.

The driver was later allowed to continue with the journey with the other passengers.

The passengers said they were happy with the manner in which the incident was handled by the bus driver, conductor and police.
