Gone with the wind: Narok parents, teachers count losses as strong winds blow away classroom roofs

The administration of Mogoiwet Primary School in Trans Mara East Sub -County, Narok County, are counting losses after strong winds blew off the roofs of four mud-walled classrooms.
“We are lucky the children were on holiday. But this shows how vulnerable the buildings are. We urge the county government to act fast before schools reopen,” said Sarah Cherotich, a parent at the school.

Another parent, Moses Kirui, added, “This school was built by the community with limited resources. We need stronger classrooms to keep our children safe.”

Parents are now appealing to the county government and well-wishers for assistance in repairing the damaged classrooms and building permanent structures to ensure the safety of the students when they return.
