Rigathi Gachagua and Eugene Wamalwa |
DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa known to be opposed to the Kenya Kwanza regime, has seemingly changed his stance and is now urging William Ruto to extend grace to Rigathi Gachagua. Eugene Wamalwa has urged William Ruto to comply with court orders regarding Rigathi Gachagua’s ouster. Wamalwa has made an appeal to Ruto concerning the impeachment of former deputy president Gachagua. What plea did Wamalwa make to Ruto? Wamalwa claimed that the head of state has ignored all court orders but urged him to respect court rulings concerning Gachagua’s impeachment from office. During an interview with Citizen TV on Friday, October 18, the party leader urged Ruto to permit the court to hear the impeachment case of the former deputy president and deliver a verdict.
“60 days should have been given. Allow this matter to be heard. Kenya is not going anywhere. You might hate Gachagua but you did the same to Uhuru Kenyatta. However, Uhuru never removed you,”Wamalwa said. He argued that Ruto should extend the grace that former President Uhuru Kenyatta showed him during their fallout to Gachagua. “Uhuru put up with you for four years,” he added. He further noted that despite Chief Justice orders scheduling Gachagua’s case for October 24, there are attempts to pressure the courts to convene on the weekend at night to decide Gachagua’s fate.
He made allegations that the Judiciary is receiving pressure and being intimidated in order to overturn court orders. “We are urging the William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza brigade that if you respect the Rule of Law, respect the court orders. There are pressures and the judiciary is being intimidated. I want to ask the Chief Justice that between Kenya and anarchy is the Judiciary. Let Justice be our shield and defender,” Wamalwa said. Did Wamalwa declare support for Gachagua? Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders have vowed to support Gachagua who is currently facing impeachment. Wamalwa one of the coalition leaders earlier asserted his support for Gachagua, stating they will not let the embattled Gachagua walk alone. According to Wamalwa, Ruto was determined to cause division within the Mt Kenya region by fighting Gachagua.
