Kisumu: 9 Students Hospitalized After Strong Winds Destroy Classrooms

Nine students from St. Aloys Mayenya Secondary School in Kisumu are recovering from the injuries sustained when strong winds destroyed their classrooms. St. Aloys principal Judith Atieno said the strong winds hit two classrooms and the staff room, leaving them in ruins. How strong winds destroy St.Aloys’ classes The incident reportedly occurred following a heavy downpour in the area on Wednesday evening, September 25. The school’s principal, Judith Atieno, said the strong winds were accompanied by a thunderstorm that struck two classrooms and the staff room.  

“The thunderstorm destroyed two classrooms and the staff room during last evening’s heavy downpour,” she said. The students who sustained injuries from the incident were rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Chiga, Kisumu county. The principal asserted that the students were out of danger, although the incident left some in shock. She added that everything is currently under control. “The heavy rains left behind a trail of destruction, with the roofs of the affected classrooms blown off as a result,” she said. The school management, led by the principal, is appealing to the county government and well-wishers for assistance in rebuilding the affected classrooms to allow normal learning activities to resume.
