Revellers stop music in clubs to protest against finance bill

Revellers in different towns of Kenya have kept their word and stopped playing music or dancing to register their displeasure with the Finance Bill 2024. A DJ in Nairobi leads patrons in mourning Rex during Reject Hour. Which Kenyan towns observed reject hour? In videos shared from towns such as Mombasa, Eldoret, Thika and Nairobi, revellers stood up in solidarity to sing the national anthem. Some chanted slogans against the Kenya Kwanza government, while others insisted that President Ruto go. Some DJs stopped the music while others played songs about the country’s ills, such as Sitasimama Maovu Yakitawala by rapper Juliani. In some quarters, they also took time to mourn the death of fallen activist Rex Kanyike Masai, who died during the demos. “Light up your torch for Rex, he was fighting for us when he was allegedly killed,” said a DJ at the Mombasa Yatcht Club. It was, however, not a walk in the park for some patrons and DJs as women were restricted from taking part in the #RejectHour, and disgruntled customers walked out. In Eldoret, the night protest took place at Tamasha Eldoret. “I am utmost grateful that #RejectHour was well done! Thank you guys. Thank you!” Hapa Embassy – Thika Road tumereject Patrons in Letien, Kericho county, were also not left behind in the demonstrations. “Mirema Drive with Dj Lisney honorary of #RejectHour Ah Viva Nairobi!” said tweep Boniface G Mwangi. Give thanks.” Last Bone: “Gen Z ni kusema na kutenda✊✅.” Khalid: “Amkeni ndugu zetu tufanye sote bidii nasi tujitoe kwa nguvu nchi yetu ya kenya tunayoipenda tuwe tayari kuilinda.” Finance Bill 2024 remaining stages Kenyans, as well as stakeholders in various sectors of the economy, opposed the Finance Bill 2024 during the public participation stage. However, many of the recommendations were not included in the amendments tabled in parliament before the vote that enabled Finance Bill 2024 to move to the next stage of the legislation process.
