We’re waiting for Ruto’s 50% women in cabinet promise – Ngilu

 

Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has said was awaiting to see President William Ruto fulfil his promise of allocating 11 cabinet slots to women.

‘He promised 50 per cent 11 women in the cabinet, that we can support. Let’s wait and see,” she said on Saturday

While campaigning, Ruto had made seven pledges to Kenyan women if elected president.

He announced that he will enter into a direct agreement with women and give them 50 per cent Cabinet slots.

Speaking during the Kenya Kwanza women charter conference in June, he pledged that his administration,the two-thirds gender rule will be implemented within the first three months of his administration.

He also promised to introduce a women’s rights agency to protect women from Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and ensure that all land transactions are consented to by women.

Ruto averred that his government will provide free sanitary towels to all girls and that he will develop a program that will ensure teenage mothers return to school.

Also that his administration will ensure that girls taking science-related courses in Technical and Vocational Education and (TVET) Training institutions will get bursaries.

Ruto also promised that his administration will provide access to government procurement opportunities to ensure that all women automatically qualify for funding.

He added that his administration will establish a Sh 50 billion fund that will enable women to get credit to support their businesses.

The women’s charter would be reviewed every six months, to ensure strict implementation of the promises made.  BY THE STAR
