Police Officer Accused Of Raping Woman During Chang’aa Crackdown In Busia
An officer from Aterait police station in Teso South, Busia County has been accused of raping a 21-year-old woman on May 31.
According to the victim, two officers went to their homestead at around 11.00 pm in search of illicit brew (chang’aa).
When they found nothing, the officers took away the girl, saying they were headed to the station. One of them raped her on the way.
“I was told to follow them to the road to board a land cruiser. One said the Landcruiser is at the junction, we walked to Ongaroi…he told me to stay still and then ordered me to undress. When I refused, he slapped me and ordered that I lie down. He forcefully pinned me down and raped me. He then ordered me to go to the junction,” the victim narrated.
According to Teso South MP Mary Emaase, at least three cases of girls and mothers being raped by police officers in the area have been reported.
Teso South Sub-county Police Commander Isaac Kimwele told Citizen Digital on phone that IPOA is investigating the matter, and anyone found guilty will be prosecuted.
“IPOA has done some investigations as the lady was taken to hospital for examination. Officers are supposed to be subjected to medical investigation, then the claims will be validated,” he said.
Residents of Amaase village have called on Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to intervene, as it is not the first case of police abusing women under the guise of fighting illicit brew.
